Important Notice GAA Injury Benefit Fund






The GAA Injury Benefit Fund provides benefits to registered members playing the national games of Hurling and Gaelic Football. The GAA Injury Benefit Fund is only in place to cover benefits which cannot be claimed elsewhere and is a benefit cover only.


As of 1st June 2025 all claims for the GAA Injury Benefit Fund must be notified on
Foireann by either the player or in the case of a juvenile (U18), a parent\guardian may notify the claim on their behalf (Claims were previously made via the club injuries officer).


How to submit a claim on Foireann:

  1. Go to your Foireann profile
  2. Scroll across the top menu to ‘Player Actions’
  3. Under ‘Injury Notification’ click on the blue ‘Create an Injury Notification Link’

Prerequisites

  • You must have a valid playing membership for the season
  • You must have a membership ID
  • You can only submit a claim for an injury that happened 60 days in the past. The date of your injury is counted as day 1.
  • The club, county or independent team you are applying through has paid the GAA Player Injury Fund in advance of your injury notification
Creating your injury notification

Log in to your Foireann account and go to 'Profile'.



Click on 'Player Actions' - formerly 'Player Transfers'.


On the 'Player Actions' screen, you will be able to create a Player Transfer Application, create a Player Notification, or review past and in-progress applications for both.

To create your injury notification, click on 'Create Injury Notification'


Please make sure the details on your profile are correct, i.e. name, date of birth, address, contact information, before selecting the 'Confirm' checkbox and clicking the 'Next' button.



Enter the details of your injury, i.e. which club, county or independent team it happened with. Please note, if you have more than one club, county, or independent team added to your Foireann profile, you will have to select the relevant unit from the 'Club/County' dropdown.

If you only have one unit on your profile, that will be selected by default.



After selecting the unit, you need to select the team from that unit. For example, Premier Intermediate Football ( your Profile  must be linked to that team on FOIREANN) 

💡Note: If you are not listed on a teams in the 'Teams & Group' section, un-select the 'Limit to my teams' toggle, the dropdown will now show all of the teams for your unit.  



Please note, if a team isn't appearing, please get in touch with the secretary so they can ensure it is created in the 'Teams & Groups' section.




In the next section, you should enter all of the details of your injury and all required fields indicated by *

This includes:
Field | Mandatory/Optional

Opposition County | Optional (Depending on Activity)
Opposition Club/County | Optional (Depending on Activity)
Injury Location | Mandatory
Weather | Mandatory
Lighting | Mandatory
Footwear | Mandatory



Next, you need to add more information about your injury. To do this, click the 'Add Injury Details' button.


From the relevant dropdowns, you can select the 'Area', 'Detail' and 'Severity' of the injury.

💡Note: You can add multiple injury details, i.e Fractured Ankle and Disclocated Shoulder 



In the next section, you should enter all of the details of your injury and all required fields indicated by *

Injury Cause | Mandatory
Loss of Consciousness | Mandatory
Treatment was administered at the time of injury | Mandatory
Mouthguard / Helmet  | Mandatory
Were you substituted | Mandatory

💡Note:

  • If the injury occurred during football, A mouthguard must have been worn at the time of the injury

  • If the injury occurred during hurling, A helmet must have been worn at the time of the injury





In the next section, you should enter all of the details of your injury and all required fields indicated by *

💡Note:To describe the circumstances, please note briefly how the injury occurred

For the question on private medical insurance, if you have other private medical insurance that may cover this injury, please select the private medical insurance provider that you have and note the name of your plan.

 If you don't have private medical insurance – select no private medical insurance from the dropdown list


Once you have entered your injury details you can do a full review on section 4.  You will need to select the checkboxes before you 'Submit'.



After you 'Submit' a pop up box will appear where you have to 'Confirm'.



The Secretary of your unit (Club, County, etc) will be notified to validate your injury notification. You will be notified whenever a decision is made and, if approved, your Injury Notification will be passed to Allianz for processing.

Allianz will contact you directly for any information that is required in the processing of the claim






Creating your injury notification on behalf of your child


Log in to your Foireann account and go to 'Family'


Click 'View' next to your child's name

Go to 'Player Actions' - formerly 'Player Transfers
Follow the actions outlined above from this step forward
