Cork 1-19 Louth 1-17

Cork have started their Sam Maguire campaign on the right note after securing a vital win over Louth in Navan on Saturday afternoon.

Cork captain Brian Hurley - scorer of eight points - led the Rebel charge throughout, but it was Brian O'Driscoll's green flag midway through the opening 35 that put a glimmer of daylight between the sides.

Leading 1-8 to 0-7 at the interval, Castlehaven's Hurley continued to lead by example, as John Cleary's outfit stretched the lead to five before Louth's Liam Jackson hit back with a goal of their own to close the gap to just two.

The sides swapped scores thereafter, with Louth finding an equaliser 20 minutes into the second half to set up a tight and tense finish.

Further points from O'Driscoll, Hurley and substitutes John O'Rourke and Conor Corbett saw Cork through six minutes of added time to secure what is likely to be a very important victory for Cleary's charges.
