Our Junior Ladies were on the road again for the third game of this year's Junior A County championship campaign where they faced a stiff test against a determined Rockbán side this morning in Whitechurch.
The girls in blue were looking to build on their victory over Donoughmore two weeks ago and get a solid foothold in this year's championship standings.
They had a dream start to this game with a quickfire goal in the first minute following a quickly worked free.
Rockbán opened their account with a point in the third minute but scores proved hard to come by for both sides in the blustery conditions.
Rockbán were awarded a penalty on sixteen minutes which they duly converted followed up with two points in the seventeenth and eighteenth minutes and when they hit the net with another penalty on twenty one minutes it left Bantry trailing by seven points.
The girls in blue stuck to their task well and points on twenty two and twenty three minutes kept them in touch and they finished the half strongly with a fine goal in the thirty third minute to leave them trailing 3.2 to 2.2 at half time.
The second half of this game proved to be just as tight but again Bantry started well with points in the second and eight minutes before Rockbán replied with a pointed free on twelve minutes.
Bantry were now starting to dominate possession around the middle third and another point in the fourteenth minute was followed by a cracking goal a minute later to see the girls in blue forge ahead.Rockbán replied with another point on seventeen minutes but the Bantry defence was putting in a serious shift and the strength in depth of Bantry's squad proved to play a pivotal role in closing out this game.Further points on nineteen,twenty eight,and thirty one minutes gave them a solid grip on this game and although Rockbán closed out the scoring in the thirty fifth minute it was Bantry who emerged victorious on a scoreline of 3.8 to 3.5 to earn another valuable win away from home.
