Our Junior Ladies faced off against Douglas last Sunday afternoon in the first round of this year's Junior A County Championship. In what was a scrappy and tense game it was Douglas who took the spoils on the day.
Douglas started well and were on the scoreboard within three minutes with a well taken point.
Bantry were struggling to break down Douglas's blanket defence and despite some early opportunities to open their account they couldn't convert. This was to be the story of the first half although Bantry were defending well and limited Douglas to two scores from play to leave the score at half time Douglas 0.5 Bantry Blues 0.0
Bantry started the second half with renewed energy and started to take the game to Douglas. The girls in blue opened the scoring on two minutes and followed up immediately with another point in the fourth minute. The momentum was now with Bantry and another point in the tenth minute brought them right back into this game.Superb defending from Bantry kept Douglas's scoring chances to a minimum as Bantry drove forward in search of more scores and it would be the twenty fifth minute before Douglas would register their first point of the second half.
This game was still up for grabs when a speculative high ball from Douglas found its way to the back of the Bantry net on twenty six minutes.
This completely stifled Bantry's momentum and when Douglas goaled again two minutes later this game had slipped away fom Bantry's grasp.
The girls in blue kept battling but once more Douglas threw numbers behind the ball and despite another point from Bantry on thirty two minutes it was Douglas who emerged victorious on this occasion on a scoreline of 2.6 to 0.4.
Next up for Bantry is an away game against Donoughmore next Sunday at 12pm. #bluesabú🔵⚪️
