Our Junior 2 Ladies played Donoughmore in their Division 2C County league semi-final in the park yesterday evening and came away with a great win to qualify for this year's final.
Bantry got off to a flying start with a quickfire goal in the second minute to settle any early nerves, with Donoughmore registering their first score with a point in the fourth minute.Bantry replied with a well taken point on five minutes and a fine goal on ten minutes saw them gain the upper hand.The girls in blue were defending well and forcing the opposition to shoot from distance but despite this Donoughmore registered three further points but a sweeping move out of defence culminated in Bantry scoring their third goal of the game in the seventeenth minute to put them in a strong position at half time on a scoreline of 3.3 to 0.4.
The second half of this game proved to be a tighter affair with scores at a premium.
Both teams were well matched and giving it their all in very warm conditions.
Bantry again opened the scoring in the second minute with a well worked point before Donoughmore opened their second half account in the eleventh minute.
Donoughmore were now pushing hard to get something from this game but Bantry's defence was resolute despite Donoughmore scoring the next three points of this game.
Another point from the girls in blue on twenty four minutes helped them close out the game and although it was Donoughmore who scored the final point of the game in the thirtieth minute it was Bantry's mix of youth and experience that proved to be the winning combination.
So a Division 2C County league final against St. Finbarrs now awaits this group alongside their Junior 1 counterparts who play their Division 2 Senior County league final away to Carrigaline next Sunday at 3pm.
